PIPE meets the INTERSOS and UNHCR VOC network: inclusion and digital innovation

On 21 October 2026, as part of the European project PIPE – Programme of Inclusion for Migrant People at Risk of Social Exclusion, co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme, MAG UNINETTUNO held two online activities in collaboration with VOC – Volontari nelle Comunità (Community Volunteers), an initiative by INTERSOS and UNHCR.

The meetings brought together volunteers and representatives of migrant and refugee communities from different Italian cities. They provided an important opportunity to discuss the challenges of inclusion and the usefulness of the tools developed by the project.

The first activity, a Colloquial Talk with 17 participants, presented the main results and tools developed through PIPE. Participants shared experiences and views on the difficulties migrants face when accessing information and services. The discussion then focused on the features and use of the PIPE Migrant Guide App.

This was followed by a workshop with 16 participants, featuring a practical session to test the app, which is available free of charge for Android and iOS. Participants explored its content and features themselves and shared comments and suggestions for improvement.

Among the main suggestions, particular attention was given to making the app available offline, as people who have recently arrived in Italy may have difficulty accessing the internet. Participants also highlighted the need to keep the information regularly updated.

Working with VOC provided a valuable opportunity to involve the communities for whom the PIPE tools are intended, gather practical feedback and highlight the role of local networks in promoting more accessible and participatory inclusion.
