The National Report on Desk Research is now available!

We are pleased to announce the release of Deliverable 4.2 – National Report on Desk Research, a cornerstone document of the PIPE (Programme of Inclusion for Migrant People at Risk of Social Exclusion) initiative. This deliverable provides essential insights into the diverse challenges, needs, and integration opportunities for migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers across five European countries: Spain, Italy, Germany, Greece, and Denmark.

What is the Report about?

The report with national insights offers a comprehensive comparative analysis of the structural, cultural, legal, and socio-economic factors affecting migrant inclusion across partner countries. Based entirely on desk research, the report synthesizes national statistics, academic studies, policy documents, and NGO reports to map out the migrant experience and inform future interventions.

Key Themes and Findings

The report is structured around three core pillars: Needs, Challenges, and Opportunities. Among the key cross-country findings:

  • Common needs include access to housing, healthcare, legal support, language training, and employment opportunities.
  • Recurring challenges involve administrative complexity, discrimination, underrecognition of qualifications, social exclusion, and mental health barriers.
  • Opportunities for improvement lie in targeted policies for integration, use of digital tools, intercultural mediation, and tailored support for vulnerable groups (e.g., women, youth, undocumented migrants).

Each country section details national migration policies, integration practices, and the socio-political context shaping migrant reception.

Why is this Deliverable Important?

Deliverable 4.2 of the project is not just a research document—it lays the groundwork for the PIPE project’s next steps, including the design of national training programs and the gamified app that will connect migrants to services and support systems. The report’s findings help guide local authorities, trainers, NGOs, and policymakers in developing evidence-based, inclusive, and culturally sensitive approaches.

Who can benefit from this Report?

This deliverable is a valuable resource for:

  • Policy makers and public institutions, seeking comparative insights to shape national inclusion strategies.
  • Trainers and educators, looking for context-based understanding of migrant integration needs.
  • Community organizations and NGOs, designing local-level actions with informed priorities.
  • Researchers, examining European migration through multi-country perspectives.
